About Dominica

Dominica is an English speaking island located in the middle of the Caribbean chain of islands.  It is a former British Colony which became independent in 1978.  The country is a stable parliamentary democracy. Elections are held every 5 years to elect a Government.  Dominica is a member of many international and regional organizations such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth and the Organization of American States and has diplomatic relations with a large number of countries.

Dominica is renown for its breathtaking natural beauty and is known as the Nature Island of the Caribbean.  The country places great emphasis on the preservation of the environment and this is a source of great national pride and attraction to tourists.  Additionally, this has made Dominica a very desirable second home for many citizens of Canada, the United States and Europe.

The country’s economy had historically been based on agriculture but in recent years tourist has become the biggest foreign exchange earner.
